GRAPHIC NOVEL
& COMICS ART- THE HEART OF STONE:
A GRAPHIC NOVEL BY CHUCK TODD"The Heart of Stone" graphic novel was my thesis project
in the MFA Illustration program at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.
Here are a few pages and images from the graphic novel project:
The Heart of Stone
based on the Franz Kafka story "A Fratricide"
In the Kafka story, "Pallas" from his window witnesses a violent crime on the street below. Rather than warn the victim, he chooses to watch a crazed killer with a knife murder the man.
As I developed a modern day framework for my story “The Heart of Stone,” I explored how I have ‘witnessed’ death. The character "Carl" is a bitter artist who grapples with his own demons as he toils at a newspaper and moonlights as designing sets for a stage production of “A Fratricide.”
- COMICS STORYTELLING
The Three Strikes project published by the Contra Costa Times and the Kevin Sites "Shoot First" pages combine comics and sequential art with visual journalism.
Additional illustrations showcase the comics storytelling influences on my work.
Shoot First depicts a tense event that happened to a journalist covering the war in Iraq
